A pair of Chinese rosewood corner chairs with a continuous horseshoe back that sweeps into out-turned arms. The back supports are pierced with hand-carved openwork splats in a floral motif, and the frames are joined with traditional mortise-and-tenon work, no nails.

Corner chairs earn their keep. They tuck into a spot nothing else fits, they read as sculpture from every angle, and a matched pair anchors an entry or flanks a fireplace without crowding the room.
