A matched pair of Chinese black lacquered stools, hexagonal tops bordered in a Greek key band and hand-painted with floral sprays. The canted panels below carry trailing polychrome vines, and the bowed legs meet in a low box stretcher.

These work three ways: side tables flanking a sofa, plant stands under a window, or a pair of small nightstands. Black lacquer and gold painted work goes with far more than people expect.
