This mirror came from a jewelry store. The brass top bar is engraved in script: "Mirror Mirror On The Wall — J. Albert Johnson Jewelers." That detail alone makes it an object with a specific history rather than a generic vanity piece — it was made for a jeweler's counter, used to show customers how a necklace or earrings looked, and it now carries that provenance with it.
The base is cast brass — heavy, substantial, with a melon-ribbed baluster form and a scrollwork collar around the rim. This is the kind of casting that takes real weight to do well, and you feel it when you pick it up. The lucite arms hold the mirror at adjustable tilt and are original to the piece. The combination of the ornate cast base and the clean lucite frame is unusual and very much of its era — warm traditional materials meeting 1970s–80s modernist sensibility.
The mirror itself is beveled glass, clear and reflective, in good condition.
