A hanging scoop scale from the Hanson Brothers Scale Co. of Chicago, "makers of honest spring scales" since 1866. The deep galvanized scoop still wears its original paper Hanson label, and the dial reads to 20 pounds with the little Hanson bird logo up top and the "Approved Type / New York City" seal that meant it was once legal for trade at a market or general store.

This is the version people hang for the look of it: the deep scoop, the chains, the worn dial face. Honest wear and patina throughout, and the paper label is worn but still readable. The scoop measures about 16 inches long, the dial is 6.5 inches across, and it hangs roughly 25 inches from the top hook.
