An old, heavy, hand-forged copper kettle with a lovely lived-in surface. The body is raised from copper and tinned in the old way, and generations of use have worn the tin back to bright copper in soft, cloudy patches. It keeps its domed lift-off lid with a turned knob, a short pouring spout, and a flat brass carry bail stamped with a number and worn maker's letters. The base is finished with a folded dovetail seam, the mark of real hand-work. It reads beautifully on a stove, a hearth, or a shelf, on its own or holding dried stems. Decorative rather than watertight.
