A Local's Guide to Downtown Fairfield: Post Road, the Brick Walk, and Beyond
Where to eat, shop, and spend a day in downtown Fairfield. Written by someone who has been around this town her whole life and opens a shop on Post Road on September 1st.
loom started in Black Rock on Fairfield Avenue, in a space I loved. But the honest reason I moved is that more of my customers were already here. Finding retail space you can afford in Fairfield County is not easy, and when the right spot came up in the Brick Walk I took it.
I have been around here my whole life, but being on this street as a business owner is a different thing entirely. What I did not appreciate until I got here is how much of it is independently owned. Real people who opened something and show up for it every day. Black Rock will always be where loom started, and I would love a smaller second location there someday. But this is where the shop is now, and it is a good place to spend a day.

Dining & Drinks
These are the places I actually go.
I have been coming here for over 20 years. Handmade pasta, good pizza, a 40-foot marble bar, a patio in warm weather, Italian films playing on the walls. I get the lobster ravioli every time.
My favorite sushi in town now. Worth the drive to the far end of Post Road.
Where I go for late drinks with friends. Velvet booths, oven-charred pizzas, a good Aperol spritz. Come for drinks, stay for the pizza.
A Connecticut original since 1935. Thin-crust bar pie and the famous hot oil stinger topping. My husband's favorite pizza, full stop. If you haven't tried the hot oil version, fix that today.
Really good burgers and a nice patio. We're neighbors in the Brick Walk. Easy with kids, easy on a summer night, nothing to overthink.
Real Italian gelato. Dense, slow-churned, seasonal flavors. We used to drive to Norwalk for Oggi. Now it is on Post Road. This is where the day ends.
Coffee, Breakfast & the Farmers Market
How we do Sunday mornings.
Where we get breakfast with the family before the Farmers Market on Sundays. Great sandwiches. It's been feeding this neighborhood for decades.
Over 25 local farms and food makers on the Sherman Green every Sunday. Produce, bread, fish, eggs, baked goods, flowers. Go early. The good stuff goes.
Shops & Boutiques
I do not shop much for myself, but the boutiques downtown are worth your time. Here is who I would send you to. I am also looking forward to actually knowing these people once I am open.
My shop, so take this one with a grain of salt. Vintage home decor, furniture, lighting, brass, glassware, art and natural fiber clothing, all of it picked by hand. loom started in Black Rock and moved here because more of my customers were already in Fairfield. Doors open again on September 1st. Until then everything ships from loomvintage.com, with new pieces every week.
Text 203-307-5385 if you are hunting for something specific, or want to meet up in town before the doors open. I am happy to do that.
Two sisters, a mix of vintage and new for the home. Art, jewelry, books, furniture. Coastal and collected, and fun to browse.
Liz Joy's coastal clothing brand, and this is the flagship. Relaxed, easy to wear. If you've been eyeing it on Instagram, the store is better.
Gifts, home accessories, and interior design just off Post Road. Their line is "interiors to inspire, gifts that delight," and it's accurate.
A Fairfield fixture. Home decor, gifts, and seasonal pieces with a garden, country feel. You go in for one thing and leave with five.
Home and gift on Reef Road with a sharp, personal eye. There are a few locations around CT now, but this is the original.
Two shops in one new storefront, a few doors from No. 299. Gifts, accessories, good finds. Reef Road has turned into its own little shopping stretch.
Handmade jewelry, plus one of the best birthday parties in Fairfield. You and your guests make custom charm necklaces or bracelets on the spot. Fun for kids and adults.
High-end consignment, well organized. Designer pieces at a fraction of the price. Consignment done this well is rare.
Wellness
Three places I'd send anyone, no hesitation.
Everyone I know goes to Dr. Silver. Over 29 years in Fairfield, voted most recommended chiropractor here more times than I can count. He fixes the problem instead of keeping you coming back. And everyone knows Kari at the front desk, and she makes the whole visit feel like seeing friends.
This is where I go. A small medspa just off Post Road. I see Melissa, who has over 30 years in laser and skincare, and the results are natural, never overdone. A gift card here is a really good present.
Melissa's salon. 27 years in, NYC-trained, L'Oréal Color Ambassador. Serious about hair, easy to be around. They also book the whole salon for private groups. A great Friday.
A Perfect Day in Downtown Fairfield
Everything below is walkable or a short drive along Post Road.
Firehouse Deli on Reef Rd for breakfast, then walk over to the Farmers Market at Sherman Green. Sundays only, seasonal. Go early.
Walk the boutiques. Loom Vintage for home decor and clothing (open again September 1st, text me until then), Lolli Sutton for home finds, Marea for clothing, No. 299, Wendy Loves This & Tenth of June, and The Beehive for gifts and decor.
Lunch. Shiki Hana for sushi, or Molto for Italian on the patio. Pick based on your mood.
Vintage Garden for seasonal home pieces, Olive My Stuff for designer consignment. The stretch of Post Road east of the Brick Walk is good for a slow afternoon.
Early drinks at Sophie's Pizza Bar for an Aperol spritz in a velvet booth. Get there before it fills up.
Dinner. Molto if you saved it for the evening, or Colony Grill for the hot oil bar pie. Both are the right answer.
Oggi Gelato at 1499 Post Rd. Not optional. This is how the day ends.
So much of this part of Fairfield is still independently owned. These are businesses someone built and shows up for every day. That's getting rare, and it's worth supporting.
loom is at 1139 Post Road in the Brick Walk, and the doors open again on September 1st. Come find me. Questions or want a recommendation? Text 203-307-5385 or email hello@loomvintage.com.
