Mother's Day Gift Guide for Vintage Lovers

Eight ideas for the mom who loves things that are well-made, personal, and not bought in five minutes online — plus a handful of local shops in downtown Fairfield and Bridgeport we genuinely love.

We're in our build-out at 1139 Post Road — opening Spring 2026. Browse and buy online and we'll ship it to you, or text us at 203-307-5385 and we can meet you in town.
01

Vintage Brass Candlesticks

Loom Vintage — Shop Home Decor

Solid brass candlesticks are one of those gifts that work in almost any home and only look better the longer they sit somewhere. They bring warmth to a mantle, a dining table, a bookshelf — and they're the kind of thing she'd never buy herself but always notices in someone else's home.

We carry a rotating range of heights and styles, and they're one of our most-gifted pieces for good reason.

Buy a mismatched pair at two different heights rather than a matching set. It looks more considered, which it is.

02

Vintage Glassware — a Set She'll Actually Use

Loom Vintage — Shop Kitchen & Table

Etched wine glasses, hand-blown cordials, gold-rimmed coupes, Depression glass in soft pinks and greens — vintage glassware is one of the most giftable things we carry. A set of vintage wine glasses from the 1960s costs a fraction of new crystal and is far more interesting. Every dinner party is better when the glasses have a story.

Pair with chocolates from BE Chocolat at 75 Hillside Road, Fairfield — wrap them in a vintage serving dish from Loom and you have a complete, beautiful gift without much effort.

03

Vintage Framed Artwork

Loom Vintage — Shop Art & Mirrors  ·  Pious Bird of Good Omen, 2960 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport

A framed vintage painting is the gift that genuinely changes a room. We carry original oils, watercolors, needlepoints, and lithographs — florals, coastal scenes, portraits, botanicals. Every piece is one of a kind.

Pious Bird of Good Omen
2960 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport  ·  Black Rock

An eclectic mix of vintage art, furniture, crystals, and globally sourced goods. The staff know their inventory and will point you toward the right thing. Worth a trip to Bridgeport in its own right.

Florals and coastal pieces from Loom are the most versatile. Not sure what to pick? Text us and we'll help you find the right one for her space.

04

A Natural Fiber Clothing Piece

Loom Vintage — Shop the Wardrobe

Vintage linen shirts, wool blazers, cashmere cardigans, silk blouses — clothing made from natural fibers is built better than almost anything new today. For a mom building a wardrobe with more intention and less waste, a well-chosen vintage piece is one of the most thoughtful things you can give her.

Not sure of her size? Our vintage accessories — scarves, bags, jewelry — are a safe and equally meaningful choice.

05

Breakfast at Isabelle et Vincent

Isabelle et Vincent
1903 Post Rd, Fairfield CT  ·  Open daily 6am–4pm  ·  isabelleetvincentbakery.com

A traditional French bakery that's been a Fairfield landmark since 2008. Croissants, macarons, tarts, baguettes, specialty cakes — everything made from scratch using traditional French recipes. A gift card here means she can have a proper French breakfast on her terms, whenever she wants it.

Or just take her there on the day. Order coffee and sit down. It's one of the nicer things you can do for someone on a Sunday morning.

06

A Gift Card to Privá MedSpa

Privá MedSpa
23 Sherman St, Fairfield CT  ·  privamedspa.com

This is where I go. A boutique medspa with real clinical expertise and a warm, unhurried atmosphere. I see Melissa there — she has over 30 years of experience and the results are natural and refined, never overdone.

A gift card here is one of the most genuinely indulgent things you can give a mom who spends her time taking care of everyone else. It's the gift that says you see her — not just as a mom, but as a person who deserves to feel great.

07

A Blowout at Modern Salon

Modern Salon
Fairfield, CT  ·  modernsalonfairfield.com

A boutique salon with serious technique — Melissa brings over 27 years of experience, trained in New York City, and is a L'Oréal Color Ambassador. A gift card for a blowout is something most moms genuinely wouldn't book for themselves. They also do private events — the salon can be reserved exclusively for a group.

Make it a morning — blowout at Modern Salon, pastries at Isabelle et Vincent, lunch at Molto, gelato at Oggi. A full, genuinely great Mother's Day in downtown Fairfield, most of it walkable.

08

Candles from NaturalAnnie Essentials

NaturalAnnie Essentials
Bridgeport, CT  ·  naturalannieessentials.com

Locally poured candles from Bridgeport with scents that are genuinely memorable — pineapple sage, mango coconut, cashmere plum. Candles people actually burn rather than save for a special occasion that never arrives.

Pair with a set of vintage brass candlesticks or a single ornate candleholder from Loom — the combination makes a complete, cohesive gift that doesn't look assembled from two places.

09

A Good Book from Black Rock Books

Black Rock Books
3030 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport  ·  blackrockbooksct.com

A cozy independent bookstore on Fairfield Avenue with a thoughtfully curated selection and regular author events. Ask the staff for a recommendation based on what she loves — they know their shelves and will steer you toward something she'll actually read.

10

Lunch at Molto

Molto
1215 Post Rd, Fairfield CT  ·  Open daily from 11:30am  ·  pizzeriamolto.com

Right in the Brick Walk — steps from Loom. Handmade pasta, gourmet pizza, a 40-foot Carrera marble bar, outdoor patio seating in warm weather, and Italian films on the walls. Take her for lunch after a morning of shopping. Order the burrata, share a pizza, get a glass of wine.

11

Gelato at Oggi

Oggi
1499 Post Rd, Fairfield CT  ·  oggigelato.com

Not ice cream — gelato, and the difference matters. Dense, creamy, slow-churned Italian gelato in flavors that change with the season. The easy ending to a perfect Mother's Day in Fairfield.

Whatever you choose, the best Mother's Day gift is one that shows you thought about her specifically. Vintage does that almost automatically — there's no such thing as a generic vintage piece, which means there's no such thing as a generic vintage gift.

We're opening at 1139 Post Road in the Brick Walk, Fairfield this spring. If you want help finding the right thing for someone specific, reach out — that's one of our favorite things to do.

Neighborhood Guide  ·  Spring 2026

A Local's Guide to Black Rock, Bridgeport CT

The best restaurants, shops, and things to do in Black Rock — written by someone who was born here, lives here, and opened a shop on Fairfield Avenue.

I was born and raised in Bridgeport. I live in Brooklawn — a small, quiet neighborhood just a few minutes from Black Rock. Loom's first shop was here on Fairfield Avenue, and this spring we're moving to our new location at 1139 Post Road in Fairfield.

We're not disappearing from Bridgeport. I still live here, still eat here, still love this city. This guide is a thank-you to the neighborhood that gave Loom its start. — Lilly

"Quiet streets. Beautiful historic architecture. Community-minded. Artistic, creative atmosphere. Dog-friendly, bike-friendly." — a Black Rock resident

Coffee & Breakfast

Black Rock has excellent coffee. Start here before anything else.

Sound Coffee Black Rock
2889 Fairfield Ave  ·  @soundcoffeeblackrock

My favorite coffee. Small-batch roasted beans, excellent espresso, cold brew on tap. The staff knows the regulars, the atmosphere is low-key, and it's easy to stay longer than you planned. A solid anchor for any morning in the neighborhood.

Harborview Market
218 Harborview Ave  ·  @harborviewmarket

Run by the Torres family for over 25 years — equal parts lunch spot, coffee stop, and community hub. They call themselves "the original social network," and for Black Rock that's accurate. I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. Try the cookies.

The Tasty Yolk
Fairfield Ave

Creative egg sandwiches and loaded brunch bowls. Grab it to go or eat outside — perfect fuel before a morning of shopping.

TuttiMango
2910 Fairfield Ave  ·  @tuttimango_

A colorful juice and snack bar serving mangonadas, fruit bowls, smoothies, and crepes. A joyful, refreshing stop any time of day.

🍽

Lunch & Dinner

Black Rock punches well above its weight for dining. The stretch of Fairfield Avenue has genuine variety — from wood-fired pizza and Latin street food to upscale raw bars and cozy pubs.

Fire Engine Pizza Co.
2914 Fairfield Ave  ·  @fireenginepizza

Wood-fired pizza, pastas, and craft beers in a beautifully converted firehouse. Cozy, casual, and family-friendly — one of the neighborhood's most beloved restaurants. A great dinner option, especially on a cool evening when the fire is going.

BRYAC Black Rock
3074 Fairfield Ave  ·  @bryacblackrock

An upbeat restaurant and raw bar with live music. One of Black Rock's most energetic dinner spots — equally good for a date night or a group celebration. The raw bar is excellent. Check their calendar for live music nights.

Tautog Tavern
2926 Fairfield Ave  ·  @tautogtavern

New England pub classics with a coastal twist. A great spot for dinner and live music — the kind of neighborhood bar worth becoming a regular at.

MilSabores
2925 Fairfield Ave

Delicious Latin American street food — arepas, tacos, birria. One of the most flavorful spots on the avenue. Don't sleep on it.

Timothy's Ice Cream
2976 Fairfield Ave

Classic ice cream parlor serving handmade scoops since the '90s. A neighborhood favorite for all ages — the perfect finish to a day on the avenue. Seasonal flavors, generous portions, unpretentious atmosphere.

🛍

Shops & Boutiques

This is where Black Rock really shines. The avenue has an unusually strong collection of independent shops — no chains, no filler. Each one has a real point of view.

Loom Vintage — where it all started
Originally at 2948 Fairfield Ave  ·  Now: 1139 Post Rd, Fairfield — Opening Spring 2026

This is where Loom began. I'm Lilly — I'm from Bridgeport, I live in Brooklawn just down the road, and I opened Loom's first shop right here on Fairfield Avenue. We built everything on this block: the curation, the community, the consignment program, all of it.

This spring we're moving to a new location at 1139 Post Road in the Brick Walk in Fairfield. The Black Rock shop has closed, but the online shop ships nationally — and everything we built here is coming with us.

Shop the full collection at loomvintage.com — new arrivals added weekly. We still accept consignment — text a photo to 203-307-5385.

St. Mary's-by-the-Sea
End of Asylum Street  ·  Free

A waterfront park with views of Long Island Sound and Black Rock Harbor. Locals walk dogs here, sit on the grass, watch the water. I've been coming here since I was a kid. A nice way to end an afternoon.

Captain's Cove Seaport

The Black Rock shop has closed and we've moved to Fairfield — but I still live in Brooklawn, five minutes away, and I'm in this neighborhood more than most people who claim it.

Bridgeport is my city. Black Rock is a real part of it, and it deserves more visitors than it gets. If you've never made the drive from Fairfield, Norwalk, or wherever you are — I hope this guide convinces you to finally do it.

Region 01

Designer Consignment Clothing Handbags Jewelry

Black Rock Galleries — Bridgeport

Black Rock, Bridgeport, CT

The broader Black Rock neighborhood is worth exploring: independent coffee, restaurants, and galleries all within walking distance.

Auction House Fine Art Furniture Estate Finds

Goodwill — Westport

Westport, CT

A local favorite for a reason. Located in one of Connecticut's most affluent towns, the Westport Goodwill consistently receives high-quality donations — well-known clothing brands, quality housewares, and the occasional genuine vintage find. Organized by size and color. Prices are higher than average for Goodwill, but the quality reflects it.

Thrift Clothing Housewares Affordable
Region 02

New Haven & the Shoreline

New Haven's vintage scene benefits from Yale University and a dense creative community. The Westville neighborhood in particular has quietly become one of Connecticut's best pockets for independent vintage shopping.

Vintanthro — New Haven (Westville)

895 Whalley Ave, New Haven, CT  ·  Tue–Fri 12pm–5pm · Sat–Sun 10am–5pm · Closed Mon

A thoughtfully curated vintage shop in the heart of Westville — one of New Haven's most walkable, independent-minded neighborhoods. Vintage clothing, home goods, and accessories with a genuinely good edit. Worth building a Westville afternoon around: the neighborhood has excellent coffee, restaurants, and independent shops nearby.

Curated Boutique Clothing Home Goods Accessories

English Building Market — New Haven

New Haven, CT

Housed in a beautifully restored 1860s building — one of Connecticut's most atmospheric vintage destinations. Specializes in mid-century homewares, antique ephemera, and vintage clothing from the 1920s through the 1970s. The building alone is worth seeing, and the selection inside lives up to it.

Mid-Century Ephemera Clothing 1920s–70s Historic Building
Region 03

Litchfield Hills & Western CT

Antique country in the traditional sense — rolling hills, colonial architecture, and shops that have been selling quality pieces for decades. Great for furniture, American antiques, and anything requiring an actual road trip.

The Hunt — New Milford

20 Bank Street, New Milford, CT  ·  Tue–Sun 10am–5pm · Closed Mon

Owner Gina Lacey sources unique pieces locally and online to build a constantly evolving selection of clothing, accessories, and home decor. The edit is sharp but the prices stay accessible — somewhere between curated boutique and thrift shop. Worth the drive, especially paired with a walk along Bank Street's other independent shops.

Curated Boutique Clothing Home Decor Accessories

Ridgefield Thrift Shop — Ridgefield

21B Governor St, Ridgefield, CT  ·  Wed, Fri & Sat 12pm–4pm

A community-driven nonprofit thrift shop run entirely by volunteers since 1937. Limited hours are part of what makes it special — stock turns slowly, and a well-timed visit can turn up antiques and designer items at a fraction of their value elsewhere. All proceeds support local charities and scholarships.

Nonprofit Community-run Antiques Since 1937

Woodbury Antique Dealers — Woodbury

Main Street South, Woodbury, CT

Connecticut's unofficial antiques capital — a stretch of Route 6 lined with individually owned shops, many specializing in American furniture, early ceramics, folk art, and period lighting. There's no single shop to name here; the destination is the town itself. Set aside a full day, start at one end of Main Street South, and work your way down.

Antiques District American Furniture Folk Art Full Day Trip
Region 04

Hartford & Central CT

Strong thrift and consignment infrastructure anchored by West Hartford and a network of church-run shops and multi-dealer centers that consistently turn up quality finds.

Karma's Closet — Newington

Newington, CT

Named "Best Clothing Store" by the Newington Chamber of Commerce six years running. A consignment boutique with a unique social bent — well-organized racks of clothing, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and kids, plus local handmade goods and craft fairs for local artisans. Big selection, reasonable prices, genuinely community-minded.

Award-winning Consignment Clothing Local Artisans

Deer Hill Thrift Shoppe & Boutique — Danbury

164 Deer Hill Ave, Danbury, CT  ·  Fri & Sat 10am–2pm only

Limited hours but well worth planning around. Boutique-style thrift with strongly organized, high-quality clothing, eveningwear, shoes, accessories, books, and unusual items. The space looks more like a curated shop than a church sale. Proceeds support the First Congregational Church of Danbury.

Nonprofit Boutique-style Clothing Limited Hours

Goodwill Outlet (Bins) — Hamden

Hamden, CT

Connecticut's only Goodwill Outlet — where all unsold merchandise from other area Goodwills goes before leaving the thrift ecosystem. Sold by the pound (roughly $1.50–$2.75/lb), everything in open bins, you sort through it yourself. Chaotic, but that's where the real bargains are. Best for thrifters with patience, a good eye, and comfortable expectations.

How to Shop Vintage in Connecticut

Six things worth knowing before you go.

Go mid-week

Stock is freshest Monday–Thursday after weekend donations are processed. Multi-dealer centers often restock Tuesday through Thursday.

Shop affluent-area Goodwills

Westport, Greenwich, and Darien Goodwills consistently yield quality brands and genuine vintage finds because of the caliber of donations from surrounding neighborhoods.

Know your natural fibers

For clothing, look for linen, wool, cotton, silk, and cashmere. These age well, hold their shape, and are infinitely preferable to polyester blends. Check care labels — they tell you a lot about a garment's era.

Go heavy for home decor

Brass, solid wood, ceramic, and glass are the materials that last. Avoid particle board and plastic regardless of price. Weight is usually a reliable proxy for quality in vintage home goods.

Combine your stops

The best CT vintage days combine two or three stops geographically. Fairfield County: Loom Vintage in Fairfield with Stratford Antique Center. New Haven: Vintanthro plus the English Building Market.

Follow shops on Instagram

Most curated boutiques post new arrivals on Instagram before they sell. Following shops you love is the single best way to get first look at new inventory — especially for furniture and statement pieces.

Whether you're new to vintage or a lifelong thrifter, Connecticut rewards the patient and the curious. The scene has grown significantly in the past few years — more curated boutiques, more multi-dealer centers, and a broader appreciation for quality secondhand across the state.

If you're in Fairfield County this spring, we'd love to see you at Loom Vintage at 1139 Post Road in the Brick Walk — opening Spring 2026. In the meantime, the full collection is available online with new arrivals added every week.
