A weighty solid brass letter holder with a slot for pens. Two turned posts on each side carry the rails, and the whole thing sits on a stepped rectangular base with a molded edge. Traditional desk styling, made to hold mail upright without sliding around.
The weight is the thing. It's cast brass, not plated or hollow, and it feels like it when you pick it up. That's what these were made for. A stack of envelopes doesn't tip it.
Unpolished, with age spotting and darker tarnish across the base. Left as found. Polish it if you want it bright, or leave the patina and let it look its age.
